‘MEANINGFUL DESIGN is about identifying with humility, the conditions for THE right QUESTIOn. THERE is nothing more disheartening than to answer the wrong question well’

Who we are

SA Studio is an emerging multidisciplinary Architecture & Design Studio interested in the expression of culture rooted in both the sacred and the profane.

What we do

At SA Studio, we believe in the transformative power of design to create meaning, establish purpose and illicit joy. Our work fundamentally places people at the heart of the creative process in an effort to quantify the social, cultural, economic ‘value’ of the things.

Every project has its own objective/subjective truths, our process seeks to identify and empower such truth through our research methodology and approach to design. We tackle every brief at base principles, without prejudice or bias so as to honour the client, end-user and artefact in equal measure.

We embrace teaching and learning as part of our intended output and our own little way of giving something back. Our role as design tutors at The University of Liverpool School of Architecture allows us share what we know whilst continuing to develop and grow as a studio.

Lastly, with every project we seek to uncover the intangible, the thing that will elevate it beyond its intended station to something it never knew it could be…

Beauty

Whether an project/idea has cultural meaning or not, it should still be beautiful whatever form it takes. We fully understand the question of beauty can be divisive and undeniably subjective, however, we believe it should be discussed as a point of principle when examining and interrogating a brief and not suppress its visual function in the pursuit of some so-called higher meaning or goal. We believe the craft of making can be both ‘responsible’, whilst also present itself as being beautiful.

Detail

We look upon detail as the thing that connects us; a reflection of our own humanity or our relationship with god/nature. We feel it is vitally important in the face of accepted mass production and increasing modularisation that we give detail its due right in the methodology of our research, design process, and production when presenting detail as a cultural artefact.
